White Mountaineering Spring / Summer 2012 Collection

Founded back in 2006 by former Junya Watanabe assistant Yosuke Aizawa, White Mountaineering create some of the finest outdoor apparel available, built around the concept of ‘design, utility, technology and function’.

The Spring Summer ’12 collection centres around a number of heritage fabrics, including 5oz Japanese chambray, premium patterned cotton, knitted fair isle and a Custom flower camo. The Japanese brand then transform these archive materials, using them as a foundation in the construction of functional, performance garments, utilising innovative waterproofing and moisture wicking treatments such as Pertex and eVent to add unprecedented functionality. The collection also combines these modern technologies with traditional waterproofing and strengthening methods, including leather panels at the shoulders and rear yoke as well as by applying wax coatings over lightweight herringbones and twills.

Junya Watanabe COMME des GARCONS MAN collection

Hailed as ‘techno couture’, Junya mixes the traditional with the contemporary, the natural with the synthetic – to create collections that are vastly different from season to season. Although littered with the hallmarks of Kawakubo’s influence, the MAN label has it’s own, very distinct look and feel, with irregular touches such as random folding, pleats and patches mixed with strong, bold patterning and traditional silhouettes. The strong sense of tradition adds a grounding touch of humility and respect of heritage to a collection that is otherwise outlandish, making every unfaltering piece from the collection instantly wearable. - Endclothing

Yuketen Spring / Summer 2012

The acid test for any shoe is how they stand up to the rigours of day to day wear, and let us tell you from experience, it doesn’t get much better than a pair of Yuketens. Yuketen only use the finest leathers and suede, sourcing from tanneries such as the famous Horween workshop, and their shoes are all hand sewn onto ultra-durable amazonas rubber crepe or Vibram soles. As such, not only will every pair of Yuketens last for years, but due to the effort that goes into the dying, waxing and finishing of the leather, they will become more comfortable and look even better with age. - Endclothing

The SS12 collection is a marked step on from the fledgling McNairy range from Autumn/Winter ’11, with the former J. Crew designer putting his own stamp on an exceptional range of outerwear, shirting and legwear. There is a strong focus on the use of premium archive fabrics, which sees Cone Mills denim and a SaxPop cotton/nylon mix – inspired by the famous 60/40 fabric – used throughout the range, and a muted, tonal palette of navy, burgundy and khaki that is prevalent across the collection. As with all previous WWM collections, SS12 explores new levels of functionality, and this is particularly apparent in the novel Newspaper Pocket Shirt, a modern interpretation of the classic workshirt, that showcases the McNairy eye for detail perfectly.

Paul Smith Jeans - Spring / Summer 2012 Collection

The Nottingham-based label uses a washed-out palette that is heavily influenced by the American surf scene of the mid-70′s, combining this with the work of two cultural icons, the late Confessional artist Louise Borgeois and New Wave film director Jean-Luc Goddard. The tonal, neutral colours of Borgeois and the vivid primary hues of Goddard work in tandem to add life to simple, utilitarian outerwear. The collection also melds together denims, traditional chambrays and Jacquard patchworks with acid hues and strong striped patterns.
